"Sticky" refers to a website's ability to keep
visitors on the site, to get them to explore
more of the site, and/or to get them to return
to the site occasionally or regularly.
Before we dive in, I'd like to offer you an evaluation
copy of Traffic 2000, which you can download while you are
reading this. Just click to
www.Traffic2000.com/download (this page will open in a new
window) This is the best marketing course you'll find anywhere,
it's won awards and is recommended by 33 (yes 33!) top ezine
publishers. The download takes about 5 minutes, so start it now
and by the time you get to the bottom of this webpage it
will be downloaded.
Now back to our discussion on sticky. Search engines, portal sites
and resource sites generate advertising revenue per pageview,
so the stickier the better. E-commerce sites, affiliate
sites and others also benefit from being sticky.
- First off, you don't want to lose visitors right off
the bat, so make sure your webpage loads quickly,
and has a nice look.
- Make your navigation system simple and easy to use.
If they can't navigate easily, or they get lost, they
may "hop" (leave your site).
- Start your own ezine, and place sign-up boxes throughout
your site. Then you can keep in touch with visitors,
and offer incentives for them to return, such as
sales, special offers, contests, and so on.
- Offer a free report, sent to your visitors by email.
This way you can capture the email addresses of your visitors.
Then you can follow up with them periodically and offer them
incentives to return to your site (see above examples).
- In your text copy, use "teasers" to encourage visitors
to visit the next page. One way to do this is to
break an interesting sentence in the middle, followed
by a hotlink to the next page.
- Portals, search engines and resource sites:
Offer valuable & useful resources for your visitors.
If you don't, visitors will "hop" your site and go to
another, one that offers better content.
- Portals, search engines and resource sites:
Offer dynamic content. You can find headlines, stories,
blurbs, comics and more on
http://www.isyndicate.com They have listings of
over 1,000 content providers, many which have a setup
where you can have your content automatically update.
For example, the content in your news bar might update
once or several times per day, automatically.
- There are also content provider sites that specialize
in one specific targeted area. For example,
www.sportsclicks.com offers sports content, and
www.weatherchannel.com offers weather for
major cities. Need a stock ticker on your portal? Or
current data on companies and IPOs? Or hot financial news?
www.stockcodes.com/ offers all this and more.
- ATGs ("Automatic Traffic Generators") like postcard
systems can keep a perpetual flow of traffic to your
website.
- Offer a chat room, or several, each for a specific
category, and build a flow of return traffic (people
return daily to chat with their online buddies).
- "Killer content" keeps them coming back. Whether you have
a clipart site with millions of images, or a search engine
that offers targeted, concise, easy-to-read search results,
or a webmaster tips website... if your content is good
then you'll have repeat visitors.
- Run a daily or weekly contest, and encourage visitors to
return to your site on a regular basis to enter the contests.
- Use "viral marketing" techniques to get your visitors
to bring others to your site. Viral marketing is a hot topic
right now, and if done properly you could see an exponential
increase in traffic.
If you want to learn more about some of the marketing
"power techniques" that I listed above, for example ATGs and
Viral Marketing, you should check out
www.Traffic2000.com. This award winning marketing
course has received some national press coverage, and
it is recommended by 33 ezine publishers, who have
put their reputations on the line to say that this
course is GREAT. I highly recommend you click over
and check out the site.
See you next week!
